Career Swifters offers no-nonsense practical support in your orientation for the next job. The program is for PhD and postdoc candidates preparing for a career outside academia. In six extensive interactive workshops, you will discover your personal purpose and development points. You will get insights into different companies and roles, creating a relevant network, a killer resume, LinkedIn, a motivation letter, and a pitch training with which you leave an indelible impression on every (video) application. Also, there are personal coaching sessions for tailor-made development.
A university can integrate the learning program to support their PhD and postdoc candidates in their orientation towards the next job and prepare them for a career outside academia. The program consists of six workshops (see overview learning program) and two personal coaching sessions per participating PhD candidate. The university can fill its own classes. Overview university program
Workshop 1 How do you find your purpose?
This first session revolves around a dive into practice and finding your own purpose. Which directions can you take? Insight is given into the different types of researchers outside of science. Sometimes PhD’ers and Post-docs continue as a researcher, but sometimes not! We will discover what makes your heart beat faster. What motives do you have, and which social themes are essential to you?
Workshop 2 What is your dream job?
In this session we will find an answer to this question. We start by explaining different types of companies/organizations. Corporates, startups, government. Big, small, medium. What suits you? We also look for vacancies that fit your personal purpose and dream job.
Workshop 3 How can you further develop and build your CV?
In this session you will gain insight into your qualities and pitfalls. How can you further develop your qualities to fit your dream job? How do you present yourself? How do you ensure that you leave an unforgettable impression and that your talents come into their own? In this session, we look at how you can tweak your resume and motivation letter for a specific vacancy. We also practice pitching and job interviews.
Workshop 4 What does your road to success look like?
In this session, we hear from panel members how their journey went. They share their successes but also their setbacks. We will discover how you can map your strategic route.
Workshop 5 How do you present yourself?
In this session we will work on tweaking your CV and LinkedIn. You will get hands on experience in pitching and job interviews. How do you ensure that your CV, experience, and qualities match your dream job? How do you can gain the necessary experience to meet your dream job requirements?
